Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) is a cooperative program between U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and private industry, which allows for faster, more efficient shipping across the border and helps defend against terrorist threats.
The program was instituted following the September 11th terrorist attacks when the US government dramatically increased border security. Businesses suddenly had to deal with extra inspections and an overall much slower processing of goods—a major hassle for shipping freight across borders. To counteract this, the CBP offers a program (CTPAT) that businesses can enroll in that will grant you priority at border crossings.
When becoming CTPAT certified, instead of facing increased scrutiny, you’ll benefit from a streamlined process with less hassles and inspections. Because of your certification and enrollment in the program, you’ll be treated as “low-risk.” Not only will this allow you faster shipping, but you’ll also be helping the CBP do a better job defending against terrorist threats by allowing them to focus on high risk freight.
With currently over 11,000 partners enrolled in the program, CTPAT certification is considered a necessity for any business shipping freight over the Canada and US border.
This training is designed for professionals who are involved in the development, implementation and management of CTPAT program. This course introduces students to the CTPAT rules and regulations and details about the FAST Certification program. It’s mandatory for CTPAT certified companies to do annual security training for all their staff. This course can be customized as per the requirement of the different levels of staff within an organization.
